Humans, long the servants of the Daemons races that inhabited Mellus are a diverse and scarce people only now beginning to be even thought of as a race.

Daemons inhabited a dark overworld of Mellus, cold and inhospitable. The Katarious Empire allowed these powerful beings a large measure of freedom as it suited their purpose to let this culture grow.

Daemons found that the human slaves throughout the Empire were, as yet, too small in number and lowly ability to be worth much in the eyes of their spider overseers. Quick to take any advantage, they began to buy, steal and breed humans. Enslaving, training, hardening, and teaching them to be useful slaves, servants and food.

As the Empire began to unravel, many of the skilled or better trained humans escaped. In some few cases they even overthrew the lesser of their Daemon masters and founded small tribes of free men.

Freed Humans are thus often skilled adventurers or leaders and followers of simple folk. They exist only in small groups often isolated from one another, and at most rank themselves such as:
