Darkhaven was initially founded by escaped slaves, and soon grew into the most powerful realm-independent city state in the world. As those who did not give their allegiance to any specific person poured into here and the Shield Lands, it became the mercantile capital of the world. It is almost the perfect anarchy, with no guards and only minimal control by the mayor. It is the headquarters of many guilds, including the Sand Sailors. In its recent history, Darkhaven has been rebuilt and expanded several times, especially after the Sewer Invasion of the Old Quarter (which resulted in wererats and trolls filling the streets of Old Darkhaven).
